I live in the Bronx and was just a few train stops south of this Nazi-like raid by NYPD. I heard nothing about it between the day it happened and the day I hit the road one week later to go west to help a severely disabled person relocate. This is not typical police behavior in NYC (as despicable as they are). A new police commissioner (James O’Neill) is making a name for himself by adopting brutal tactics at the expense of non-white working class people in a quiet neighborhood – obviously to garner approval from the type of ignorantly dysfunctional people crawling from beneath slimy rocks around the country now that one of them is running for president of the U.S.
I’ve walked those streets and there is definitely no reason for police to go hunting for dangerous criminals there. They could have chosen a much more dangerous neighborhood in NYC, but apparently they are either incredibly ignorant of what’s going on in the city in which they “serve” (sever?) or decided to play it safe and terrorize innocent people without risking their own safety. The latter would be amazing cowardice considering the military weaponry police departments have collected at discount prices from the U.S. Department of Defense in recent years.
An extremely important aspect of this event that deserves relentless coverage by media who purport to care about civil rights is this unprecedented use of the RICO statutes. While obscenely wealthy white-collar criminals running powerful criminal organizations like Monsanto, Citigroup, Merck and Goldman Sachs continue to terrorize the entire planet, young men trying to “scrape by” in a system designed to hold them down are treated like major Mafiosos.
Anyway, the following is an e-mail I received from the MumiaNYC website that heroicly informs the public about what is actually transpiring in OUR streets and prisons:

On April 27, 2016, over 700 NYPD and federal officers, using military-grade equipment, executed the largest mass raid in NYC history, in Eastchester Gardens in the Bronx. 120 people were arrested and indicted on “conspiracy charges.” The NYPD and the feds are using conspiracy charges and social media monitoring to indict whole social networks.
Some of the men indicted have already been acquitted for the charges on a state level, but under Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO), they are being charged at the federal level for conspiring to commit the crime.
The use of RICO in Black and Brown communities is a continuation of strategies—such as COINTELPRO, the street sweep and stop-and-frisk—used to terrorize communities of color and perpetuate mass incarceration. The newly appointed police commissioner, James O’Neill, oversaw the arrests of the Bronx 120, and we can be certain that under his regime these mass raids and kidnapping of young black men will continue.
